Intel charts new seas
Abstract:
For the first time, Intel Corp. has made available its chip-making nanotechnology tools to cancer researchers in the hope that being able to detect tiny defects in silicon chips also will work in human tissue to diagnose and study cancer. Though just preliminary research, Intel's union with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle is part of a voyage toward its future beyond pure-silicon manufacturing. After all, Intel's advanced chips will be commodities within several years, say experts.
