Promising New Cancer Test Could Save Lives
Abstract:
One out of every six men in America today will eventually get prostate cancer, and it is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among American men. But a new test can pinpoint prostate and other cancers early, and with great accuracy. Chemist Chad Mirkin from Northwestern University has found a fast and accurate way to test for prostate cancer. Mirkin uses tiny particles of gold to check for PSA in the blood. The gold nanoparticles react with a person's own DNA, telling researchers which protein is present and what disease is there.
