The world in tiny pieces

Abstract:
Curious and concerned, ethicists roam the frontier of nanotechnology as it emerges in labs and markets around the globe. In the past decade, nanotechnology has become a buzzword for molding the physical world from the molecular level up. Like the fields of bioterrorism, cloning and stem cell research, it engages freewheeling pioneers from biology, chemistry, physics and engineering. Nanotechnology's wide appeal shows in the list of speakers, including two Nobel Laureates, chemist John Fenn of Virginia Commonwealth University and physicist William D. Phillips, at an international nanotechnology conference in Richmond this week.
