Nanoparticle Tattoo Could End Diabetics' Finger Pricking

Abstract:
A "smart tattoo" is in the works that could allow diabetics to use light to measure their blood sugar instead of annoying and painful finger pricks. Consisting of nanoparticles that are injected into the skin, the tattoo is being developed by students at Louisiana Tech University's Institute for Micromanufacturing in Ruston. A spectrometer using filtered light activates the nanoparticles and a readout from the spectrometer indicates blood sugar levels.
