Oregon Considered: Nanotechnology Roundtable
Abstract:
As Oregon struggles to emerge out of recession, politicians and business leaders are often heard espousing the importance of technology. The reasoning goes that manufacturing jobs--those that can be done by less-skilled employees--are likely to be quickly shipped overseas to Mexico or China where wages are lower. But jobs that require highly educated workers will pay much better and stay in-state where they can help drive the economy.
The new buzzword is nano-technology - that is the creation of machines, drugs and materials literally one atom at a time. (includes link to audio interview)
