Will individuality survive 21st century technology?
Abstract:
In the future, technology will impact at all levels: at the molecular level, with genetics; at the cellular level, with drugs; at the cell/body level, with nanotechnology and scanning; and at the body and environment levels, with information technology virtual reality, augmented reality, and bioterrorism. Could these new technologies dismantle our unique human qualities, thus marking the obliteration of the individual self? Could the individual self be subsumed in the collective extremist movement?
