Quantum MP3 May Soon Be Reality
Abstract:
"Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. lab in Urbana, Illinois, on the 12th of January." When the intrepid astronauts of Arthur C. Clarke's "2001: A Space Odyssey" heard those ominous words from their future nemesis, they could have been hearing the voice of a quantum computer, though Clarke and director Stanley Kubrick might not have envisioned such technology at the time.
