Scientists see promise in Alzheimer's proteins
Abstract:
New research by Northwestern scientists into the cause of Alzheimer's disease could lead to new ways to diagnose the disease -- and maybe even a vaccine or a cure. Members of the research team, led by neurobiology and physiology Prof. William Klein, have identified tiny proteins they think are the cause of the Alzheimer's. Klein's researchers now hope to discover how ADDLs are formed in the first place. They also plan to collaborate with NU's Institute for Nanotechnology to develop new methods of detecting the proteins in blood. Better identification could lead to a more accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer's.
