Spire Awarded $400,000 to Develop Nanotechnology Ceramic Coatings

Abstract:
Spire Corporation announced today that it has been awarded from National Institutes of Health a two-year, $400,000 Small Business Innovation Research grant to develop a new family of "smart" nanophase ceramic coatings that will enhance bone integration and promote better device fixation of orthopedic implants. This Phase I grant, administered by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, is part of NIH's Nanotechnology Initiative and can lead to funding of up to $1.2 million in a Phase II effort.
