Nanotech meets biotech in Silicon Valley
Abstract:
Biotechnology has found a new bedfellow in nanotechnology, which is the science of manipulating or building products atom by atom. And when biotech snuggles up to nanotech, astonishing new products are born. For instance, tiny machines that travel through your bloodstream to diagnose and treat internal ailments. And some applications are not as far off as you'd think. Researchers at Stanford University and elsewhere are working on an implanted optical chip that may be a visual aid to blindness, which could see commercialization within five years.
