Sematech, a year after handshakes
Abstract:
Picture it: A public school yearning to draw big-time tech research secures a state commitment for tens of millions of dollars. A major semiconductor player offers its own pledge to come to the area.
On June 30, the University of Texas at Dallas and microchip-maker Texas Instruments Inc. announced a $300 million project under which UTD's engineering school will get a giant new lab and TI will build a factory next door in 2005, if the economy will support it.
